Authentic Taonga Foods
Authentic Taonga Foods
Aotearoa New Zealand has a unique opportunity to partner with Māori to develop new food and bio-based products that have strong connections to land and culture.
Indigenous knowledge and science can play a key role in enabling the development of a thriving high-value taonga products sector.
We are building this sector by first partnering with Māori. Then working together to develop proprietary knowledge of taonga-based foods and ingredients and designing innovative pathways for product development.
We are also building strong foundations and principles in access and benefit sharing models and data custodianship that acknowledge the cultural importance of taonga and the role of kaitiaki in safeguarding these resources and knowledge for future generations.
