Our wine research

For more than 7,000 years, humans have made wine. While our history doesn’t go back that far, we have a strong track record of using science to help winemakers grow their grapes in the most sustainable ways and make exceptional wines.

Our research covers the journey from vine to glass. Our insights into sustainable production methods help growers reduce the burden of pests and diseases, while ensuring the vine is encouraged to produce the right number of grapes to ensure the best quality in every one. We also look at how wine taste and flavour are influenced by different growing techniques, and how these impact on consumer preference and buying behaviours.

We’re not just looking at helping growers now but also looking to what the future might bring. We’re creating digital tools to help growers make long-term decisions about how they manage their vines and that support automation on the vineyard, while using our knowledge to understand how growers could best adapt to a changing climate.
