Conservation & ecology

We’re finding new ways to protect our native flora and ecosystems.

Native plants and fish have a special place in our heart. They hold cultural and sentimental values and are vital to biodiversity.

We work closely and respectfully with kaitiaki (guardians) to protect native species from invasive pests and diseases or other challenges brought by climate change. We believe Western science can learn a lot from indigenous practices, and collaborate with indigenous groups to weave together Western science and indigenous knowledge to manage threats to native species. We also develop new technologies to preserve native species in a respectful manner.

We are a partner in the New Zealand’s Biological Heritage National Science Challenge.
