Food shouldn’t make us sick, and we all rely on food producers to do the right thing to reduce the risk of food-borne illnesses from their products.
Our scientists know about the pathogens that can be found in our food, such as Salmonella and Listeria bacteria, and the different ways of handling, processing and storing food to keep pathogens at bay. As experts in the food supply chain, we can also help identify where pathogens might be introduced and how best to make sure food is kept at its best.
We work with food companies to make sure their products can be delivered to food lovers around the world in their freshest, safest state. We also share our expertise with government and non-government organisations, growers, marketers and food manufacturers in developing countries where food safety is still very much a concern.
We are a member of the New Zealand Food Safety Science & Research Centre.
