We have a range of plant cultivars available if you want a Plant & Food Research variety in your home orchard. These cultivars are available through garden centres or direct from the nursery.

Berryfruit

An erect plant with vigorous growth, producing large berries with excellent flavour. Harvest mid-March to late April.

Spreading tree with no thinning required, produces large, sweet, juicy fruit and virtually seedless. Harvest early September to late October.

Poplar

‘Argyle’ Populus deltoides x P. nigra

Fast growing hybrid, suitable for soil conservation and stock shelter.  Tolerates relatively dry and windy sites.

‘Crow’s Nest’ NZ5010 (Populus deltoides x P. nigra) x P. nigra

Female clone, steep branching angle with narrow crown. Side branches are light and require little trimming. Suitable for horticultural side belts or soil conservation.

Male upright tree with only a few heavy limbs. Suitable for general soil conservation and typically on lower slopes. Performs best in drier conditions.
