Working in the International Development Unit (IDU) allowed me to work on projects with different scopes and objectives. While "research" is sometimes less important than "development", I enjoy working with packhouse staff and supervisors, training farmers and retail staff alike in simple, effective and affordable methods of postharvest management techniques in hot climates. My PhD focused on apple maturity and effects on storage, not something I ever use directly, but it gave me the tools to know my way around a packhouse.
