Sustainable Production

Dr John Mitchell

Scientist

I am inspired to find new ways of measuring the complex changes in chemistry associated with the global supply of fresh produce. My areas of research span sensor technology, analytical methodology, analytical biochemistry, polymer and interface science but I have a current focus on designing and developing sensor technologies for monitoring fresh produce quality and condition throughout the supply chain. My recent research has included organic volatiles sensing systems integrated into wireless sensor networks for in-situ monitoring of fruit condition during storage, development of technology for detecting or managing biosecurity threats and the implementation of non-invasive fruit firmness sensing technology.
