Dr Louise Kregting

Senior Scientist

My work is multi-disciplinary bringing together marine ecology, physiology, and biology with coastal and oceanographic modelling and engineering techniques. Three main interests include i) Investigating the environmental interactions of marine (wave and tide) energy converters ii) primary productivity of macroalgae and potential uses as high-value products, and iii) Open Ocean Aquaculture. The factor that links these topics together is water motion, a fundamental driver of ecosystem structure, biodiversity composition, morphology and life history strategies of aquatic organisms. I am the Science Team Leader of the Aquatic Design and Bioengineering team with a main focus on design and engineering aspects of new prototype structures to assist the transport, production and harvest of finfish.
