Dr Mike Beare

Principal Scientist

I am a Principal Scientist in the Sustainable Production Portfolio at the Bioeconomy Science Institute (Plant & Food Research Group) and an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Lincoln University. I completed BSc and MSc degrees at the University of Oklahoma and a PhD at the University of Georgia in the USA, before moving to New Zealand in 1993 to take up a position as a soil scientist. My research interests include soil fertility, soil carbon and greenhouse gas emissions, circular food systems and the management of agricultural production systems to sustain productivity and mitigate adverse environmental impacts. I am a Fellow of the NZ Society of Soil Science, the Soil Science Society of America, and the American Society of Agronomy. I have authored/co-authored more than 200 peer-reviewed scientific publications.
