New Cultivar Innovation

Dr Rebecca Bloomer

Scientist

I'm a scientist with the Annual Crops group, with a background in both quantitative genetics and molecular biology. Since joining Plant & Food Research in 2018, I've used these skills primarily to support our potato and cannabis genetics programmes, with a few perennial-focused projects alongside. I'm interested in the mechanisms underlying how plants perceive and respond to their changing environment, from the seasonal to the adaptive timescale; and particularly the impact of genetic variation on these processes. Current projects include identifying the contribution of lncRNAs to breeding targets; epigenetic regulation of environmental resilience traits; and the influence of genotype on chilling in perennial horticultural species.
