New Cultivar Innovation

Dr Revel Drummond

Scientist

I am a molecular biologist working in the field of plant developmental biology. Most of my time is spent actively designing experiments and carrying them out in the laboratory and glasshouse. My research is focused on the discovery and functional characterisation of genes involved in strigolactone (SL) hormone biology. I use an array of techniques to discover new genes. I have used genome editing (TALEN and CRISPR/Cas9) to produce mutant plants. I have spent considerable time developing and deploying these methods for use at Plant & Food Research. I routinely perform the molecular testing and the phenotypic characterisation of plant lines using ddPCR. I have designed and performed (including building hydroponic and LED lighting plant growth systems) experiments to test the effects of the environment on plant growth.
