As Intellectual Property Manager, I lead strategic intellectual property management for new technologies being developed and commercialised by Plant & Food Research with our licensees & partners. The IP team manages all aspects of intellectual asset protection (including patents, trade marks, copyright, trade secrets) for a broad range of technologies across numerous jurisdictions. We work with project teams to upskill them on IP issues, develop IP management plans for their projects, continue to work with and coach them as the technology develops, and then manage IP protection strategy to best support the commercialisation of the technology. We also run training sessions including our Core Business Skills programme. I have over 20 years involvement in a broad range of commercialisation, business development and technology transfer activities, and have negotiated licensing and sale of intellectual property across a range of technology areas both in NZ and overseas. I am a longstanding member of the Licensing Executives Society (LES), an international network of innovation and commercialisation professionals involved in promoting best practise commercialisation of IP globally. I have been a Trustee on the Board of LESANZ (the Australia/NZ chapter) for many years and am currently President Elect. Through LESANZ I have been able to expand my passion for developing people through the development and delivery of training programmes across NZ and Australia.
